End of Season BBQ

This Saturday, the 4th September, at the Club House, make sure you are there to see out the season in style!

Dinner and Presentation Evening

This will be held at the Club House, Bletchington, on Saturday  9th October, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets will be £15 for senior members and £10 for juniors.

Club House Modernisation and Scorebox

Anyone driving past the ground over the next few months will see the planned changes to the Club House taking place. These will include a partial pitched roof, redevelopment of the patio and porch area and the erection of a brick built scoring box. This is a project made possible by the determination and energy of Chris Bishop, firstly, in getting it through the planning phase and secondly, in obtaining grants and raising funds for the project. He has also been greatly assisted by Dave Mulcott in the drawing up and revision of the plans. I am sure that the finished result will be a appropriate reminder of the thanks that we owe them.

Members still have a opportunity to view the plans in the club house lobby. It is hoped that the work will be completed by Christmas.

We now need to raise some funds to finish and equip the scorebox and we will be announcing the details of a scheme where members can sponsor a brick to help get us over the line. Watch this space.

Weekend of the 28th August

The Nondies 1st X1 clinched the Cherwell League 2nd Division title with an extraordinary win at Abingdon Vale on Saturday. When Sanjay Vinjimoor took the last Abingdon wicket with the 4th ball of the last over to clinch a 3 run win, Nondies knew the title was theirs, whatever was happening in the other games. It completed a astonishing recovery in a game that Nondies were never at their best with either bat or ball on a green, slow wicket. However, the teams resilience and ability to take wickets in clusters, once again saw them prevail.

Inserted by home team skipper, White, Nondies made a promising start in difficult conditions. John Guthrie and Pablo Mukerjee put on 35 for the first wicket and despite the loss of 2 quick wickets the visitors reached the relative prosperity of 88-2 at the half way stage. The removal of Ian Mead to the tricky leg spinner White, left the innings becalmed and although Jon Guthrie looked secure until he fell one short of his 50, White and Snook swept away the middle order and Nondies were in big trouble at 112-8. The experience of Tim Rattigan, batting down the order, and Sanjay Vinjimoor was invaluable as they sought to build a defendable total. First by some well judged running and later with some aggressive shots that got Nondies to 145-8. White with 4-42 from 21 overs troubled all the batters.

Nondies opening attack of Ed Oakley and James Holton found early movement but no breakthrough. With Barker happy to occupy the crease, while Boon played his shots, Abingdon were soon making Nondies score look inadequate. Mark Strong introduced Sanjay and then, himself in attempt to make a breakthrough. Boon though was determined not to get tied down and took two successive sixes off the skipper as the opening partnership reached 70. Strong finally made the breakthrough when he produced a beauty to bowl Barker. Another followed immediately, before Cook joined Boon and helped him take the score to 111-2. The skipper then turned to 'the leader of the pack' Ed Oakley with the situation looking desperate. Ed did not disappoint and trapped Boon in front for 70. This opened an end and the Vale middle order started to look vunerable. However, they inched their way to 127-4 as Strong and Oakley tested their technique and nerve. Cook finally lost his and was bowled for 29, further wickets then fell to both bowlers, including a marvellous leg side stumping by Jon Guthrie as Abingdon slumped to 134-9. Nondies then looked favourites with the last pair struggling to keep out a rampant Oakley and the flight of Strong. However, there was one more twist in the tail when  Oakley, bowling what was likely to be his penultimate over, pulled up with a hamstring injury. Sanjay was called up to complete the remaining two balls of the over. A couple of runs from Strong's last over left all results possible with the home team on 140-9. Two more runs from the first 3 balls left no room for error but Sanjay kept his nerve and with his 4th ball bowled the last man to start the celebrations. Oakley with 4-42 took his total to the season to an outstanding 62 wickets, while Mark Strong with 4-46 used the conditions well and was never afraid to tempt the Abingdon batsmen.

Under 17's Youth Team

Nondies will be for the first time fielding a team in the U17 competition this coming season. This is to provide competitive cricket for those boys who have come through the youth section and are now to old for the U15 side, previously the most senior age group. This is in addition to the teams that will be competing in the under 11, under 13 and under 15 group league and cup competitions. This commitment to youth cricket is central to our strategy but needs additional volunteers to manage it. We need your help now!
