1st X1vs Long Hanbrough 9th June 2007
First Team march on.
The first team maintained their unbeaten record as they crushed Long Hanborough by 10 wickets at Jordan Hill.
The Hanbrough captain won the toss and decided to bat on a warm and muggy afternoon. Captain Stanners shared the new ball with Leighton James but had difficulty with his footholds and was replaced by Ross Brown after only 2 overs. With the new ball swinging readily in the heavy atmosphere both bowlers found considerable movement and troubled all the batsmen. Leighton made the early break through but the pair matched each other almost wicket for wicket as the score reached 80 for 8. The outstanding moment was a blinding one handed catch by Ross to remove the dangerous Matt Busby. Ross ended his spell with the impressive figures of 4-35 and Leighton's return of 4-36 was no less impressive. It was then left to the spinners Sanjay and Mark to finish the job with a wicket each as Hanbrough were dismissed for a meagre104.
For the second week running the openers Tom Bilyard and Steve Schofield had their pads on before tea and had move comfortably to 30 before the teapot was filled. After tea they took control as the visitors captain rung the changes. Stevo whose previous experiences against the Hanbrough spin attack had been less than epic, was both selective and distructive in his shot selection. In no less a belligerent mood Tom also found the boundary regularly and won the race to 50. Stevo then won the match in style as he drove a six over wide mid on to bring an emphatic victory. Following on from the previous game, when they put on 96 the opening pair set a new mark for the season with a partnership of 109.
With Long Marston also winning Nondies sit in second place and seek to continue their good form at Witney Mills next weekend.
