Weekend of the 4th September
The final weekend of the season produced some low key cricket after the excitement of the previous weekend. The highlight was a first win of the season for the second team at Banbury Town, which should send them into the close season with some better memories. The first team slipped to an 18 run defeat against 3rd placed Sandford, losing 3 late wickets when well placed. The 3rd team finished on a high note with a convincing win over Kimble. While, Will Greens 4th team suffered a defeat at Long Marston but had the compensation of getting enough points to lift them to finish 3rd in the table.
Despite a hundred from Worth and 50 from Proctor the 2nd team bowlers managed to restrict Banbury 3rds to 194-5 at Horton Rise. Andy Haynes with 5-55 being the pick on the Nondies bowlers. Steve Jennings lead the chase with a well paced 77, before Mark Thomson, 38, and Simon Hooker, 32, helped Nondies home with 5 wickets to spare.
Sandford batted first in the game at Bletchington that had an end of term feeling. Despite losing a wicket in Matt Scriveners first over, the visitors scored at a good rate with Nondies skipper Mark Strong maintaining attacking field placings. Past the hundred mark at the drinks break, Sandford were hauled back by Sanjay Vinjimoor and Mark Strong. Sanjay finished with 6-31, just reward for a fine spell of spin bowling. Sandford finished on 174-8, with Gough 55, well supported by Kill, 43.
Nondies got off to the worst possible start with Jon Guthrie out for 0 and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Pablo did his best to anchor the innings with 33 and while Chris Day was at the wicket a win always looked possible. However, when he perished in the deep for 38 Nondies were always slightly off the pace. Strong and Vinjimoor took them to within 25 of the target but in fading light the last 3 wickets fell quickly and Nondies were all out for 155.
With Jordan Hill given over to football, Nondies 3rd team hosted visitors Kimble at the Warborough ground. Batting first, Nondies veteren openers Archie Esson and Clive Smith failed to roll back the years. The rest of the top order also misfired on a difficult track and Nondies were in trouble at 45-5. Banting with 47 then marshalled the tail and Nondies posted a respectable 159.
Nondies bowlers were quickly amongst the wickets and Kimble subsided to 79 all out. Five bowlers each took 2 wickets each in a good alround performance. While I am sure captain Gary Adamson will be disappointed with 8th place this season, the performance of some of the younger players promises a better season in 2011.
In contrast, the 4th teams 9 wicket defeat at Long Marston was not a reflection on previous strong performances. Batting first Nondies struggled to 135-8 in their 45 overs. Only Bearn with 38 batting with any authority. Long Marston suffered no such inhibitions and Graveson ,70, and Brooks 37 helping Marston to canter home. However, Will Green can be prouds of his teams efforts this season.
Dinner and Presentation Evening
This will be held at the Club House, Bletchington, on a date to be confirmed. Tickets will be £15 for senior members and £10 for juniors.
Club House Modernisation and Scorebox
Anyone driving past the ground over the next few months will see the planned changes to the Club House taking place. These will include a partial pitched roof, redevelopment of the patio and porch area and the erection of a brick built scoring box. This is a project made possible by the determination and energy of Chris Bishop, firstly, in getting it through the planning phase and secondly, in obtaining grants and raising funds for the project. He has also been greatly assisted by Dave Mulcott in the drawing up and revision of the plans. I am sure that the finished result will be a appropriate reminder of the thanks that we owe them.
Members still have a opportunity to view the plans in the club house lobby. It is hoped that the work will be completed by Christmas.
We now need to raise some funds to finish and equip the scorebox and we will be announcing the details of a scheme where members can sponsor a brick to help get us over the line. Watch this space.
